SURREY - Stephanie Cadieux, a well respected business and community service leader will be representing the BC Liberals as the candidate in the riding of Surrey – Panorama in the 2009 election.
“I’m excited to put my name forward to represent the people of Surrey – Panorama,” said Cadieux. “From the new outpatient hospital to long awaited improvements to highways and transit, the work the BC Liberals have been doing in Surrey speaks volumes for their commitment to this community.”
Since a car crash at the age of 18, Stephanie has become a strong community advocate for programs to assist people with disabilities achieve goals and regain independence. Stephanie currently works as the Director, Marketing and Development for the BC Paraplegic Association and has a wide range of community service activities in her background, including serving as a member of the Global TV Diversity Advisory Committee and the YWA Connect to Success Program. Stephanie has also previously worked with 2010 Legacies Now to develop an accessible tourism plan for British Columbia.
Among the over one hundred supporters in attendance at her nomination, Phil Reimer, broadcaster & writer, gave a heart warming welcome to Stephanie as a candidate for the upcoming election.
“Even though she is physically disabled – like many others that word doesn’t describe Stephanie Cadieux,” said Reimer. “She approaches life and the projects ahead with the same energy and enthusiasm of any able bodied person. While others may be just as enthusiastic – Stephanie brings determination, intelligence and a well thought out perspective to how she is going to serve all of you, and the community.”
Premier Gordon Campbell, along with several other Members of the Legislature, were on hand at today’s acclaimed nomination to welcome Stephanie to the BC Liberal Team, a fact not lost on her campaign.
“I’ve been made very welcome by Premier Gordon Campbell and members of the BC Liberal government,” said Cadieux. “I’m excited about the upcoming campaign and providing the leadership to represent the citizens of our community."
